I appreciate your response to my questions and I will contact the persons you suggested for the specific anti-scalant material. I would, however, like to continue the discussion of this subject in a broader forum also.
In our activity, we are using the WaterCycle program to provide preliminary treatability studies for potential users of our equipment. The water treatment equipment we design and manufacture involves falling film evaporation under vacuum. Our objective is the usual one; we want to be able to reach as high concentrations as possible without having precipitation occur. I have been warned, not to rely on general guidelines for scale inhibitors, since evaporation is a more difficult process than e.g. membranes in which to control precipitation. I believe this fact is due to the physical circumstances, long retention time and the presence of a heat transfer surface. Additionally, some applications require the need to operate at low pH (~4.5); a point at which, if I understand correctly, the effect of virtually all scale inhibitors decrease. The WaterCycle program does not appear to consider these challenges in its suggestions.
I would greatly appreciate further comments by you and/or others on this issue, especially as it concerns evaporation.
