French Creek is pleased to report steady progress in the revamping of WatSIM™ municipal modeling software. WatSIM has always calculated lead and copper solubility. The modeling software is now under heavy development, adding accompanying corrosion models. Currently WatSIM institutes French Creek's slick saturation level calculations, a carbon steel corrosion model, and treatment models (standard acids, alkalis, and inhibitors, including orthophosphate, polyphosphates, zinc and blends).

Topic ""M" Alkalinity Units" a message from Cagliastro

Excellent question. "M" alkalinity is methyl orange alkalinity. It is the alkalinity measured by titrating to the MO endpoint with a standardized acid. In a pure carbonic acid system, it is the sum of bicarbonate, carbonate, and hydroxide less hydronium in the units "as CaCO3". In most water other alkaline species such as phosphates, silicates, and borates (for example) are included in the titration. "M" alkalinity is be corrected for noncarbonate alkalinity by French Creek programs prior to be used to calculate HCO3, CO3 and dissolved CO2

the "as HCO3" and "as CO3" units are inputs for these species from an uncorrected "M" alkalinity.

"cor. HCO3" and "cor. CO3" are inputs for these species after correction for noncarbonate alkinity.

Aquatic Chemistry by Stumm and Morgan has a superior discussion of alkalinity

Alkalinity expresses as HCO3
